Dear Viewer,
THIS IS THE RECENT UPDATE FOR ALL EXISTING LICENSE HOLDERS, NEW APPLICANTS, MANUFACTURERS, IMPORTERS, AND PRODUCT SELLERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE). IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (BIS QCO) FOR THE V-BELTS (TRANSMISSION DEVICES – V – BELTS ENDLESS NARROW V-BELTS FOR INDUSTRIAL USE).
6th MARCH 2024
The Indian government, specifically the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has created a rule in New Delhi in 2023. This rule, known as the V-Belts (Quality Control) Order, aims to ensure the quality of V-Belts. It becomes effective six months after being officially published. The rule requires that products listed in the Table must meet a specific Indian Standard mentioned in the same Table.
According to this rule, V-Belts must follow the specific Indian Standard 14261:1995, which focuses on endless narrow V-Belts used for industrial purposes.
Additionally according to BIS QCO for the v-belts (transmission devices – v – belts endless narrow v-belts for industrial use), it's essential that these products display a Standard Mark, which can be acquired by obtaining a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. It's important to note that goods produced domestically for export purposes are exempt from this requirement. Micro and small enterprises enjoy a grace period before the rule becomes applicable to them, extending to twelve and nine months, respectively, from the date of notification publication.
As per mentioned in BIS QCO for the v-belts (transmission devices – v – belts endless narrow v-belts for industrial use) the Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring adherence to the rule. Any violation of this rule can lead to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
