Extension of Timeline for Filing Annual Returns for PIBOs and PWPs | Plastic Waste Management
Introduction
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has recently issued an important notification extending the deadline for filing Annual Returns (AR) for registered Producers, Importers & Brand Owners (PIBOs), and Plastic Waste Processors (PWPs) for the fiscal year 2023-24. This extension is significant for all stakeholders in the plastic waste management ecosystem, ensuring compliance with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) guidelines.
Original Filing Deadlines
As per the EPR guidelines notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), as the IV Amendment to the Plastic Waste Management (PWM) Rules:
- PIBOs registered during the fiscal year 2023-24 were required to file their Annual Returns for FY 2023-24.
- PWPs were required to file their Annual Returns for the same period. The deadline for filling the annual returns has been extended.
Revised Filing Deadline
Following the Office Memorandum (OM) dated June 18, 2024, issued by MoEFCC, the CPCB has extended the deadline for filing Annual Returns on the EPR portal for plastic packaging. The new deadline for both PIBOs and PWPs registered during FY 2023-24 to file their AR for FY 2023-24 is now September 30, 2024.
Importance of Timely Filing
It is crucial for all PIBOs and PWPs to adhere to the revised deadline to ensure compliance with the EPR guidelines. Filing the Annual Returns on the EPR portal within the stipulated timelines is mandatory and helps in maintaining transparency and accountability in plastic waste management.
Compliance and Accountability
This extension provides a critical window for PIBOs and PWPs to prepare and file their Annual Returns accurately. It is a reminder of the importance of regulatory compliance in managing plastic waste and the shared responsibility of producers, importers, brand owners, and waste processors in achieving sustainable waste management practices.
All concerned parties are advised to utilize this extended period to ensure that their AR is filed correctly and promptly. Compliance with these guidelines not only aligns with national environmental goals but also enhances the credibility and operational integrity of the stakeholders involved.
Conclusion
This notification is issued with the approval of the Competent Authority and underscores the commitment to effective plastic waste management through diligent adherence to regulatory frameworks.
Stay informed and compliant to contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.
